It´silvery all over, scaleless with a single dorsal spine.
Usual maximum lenght: 1.22 metres.
Mass: 5.25 kg.


Depth range: 10–374 metres.
Biogeography: Temperate or cold waters.
Habitats: Bottom dwelling;  shallow sandy area; inshore or open ocean.
Food: small fish and invertebrates.
Reproduction: Egg cases (hairy and spindle shaped)
