The Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), the national bird of the United States of America, is the only eagle unique to North America. It was chosen in 1782  because of its long life, great strength and majestic looks and because it was then believed to exist only in America.

In Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales crowds watch competitors swim up and down a 133 meter bog filled with sulphurous, weedy water. Some wear silly costumes but all entrants must not use conventional swimming strokes, relying on flipper power only.
